Dirrell is extremely skilled, there's no denying. However, the guys in Dragonforce are skilled musicians but I'd rather listen to Freddy Kreuger play a chalkboard. In fact, forget "the Matrix," I will from now on refer to Dirrell as "Dragonforce" Dirrell. Thanks!

I can't say I know the reason for sure but Dirrell is a Gary Shaw fighter and Shaw and Showtime have always been tight. That seems to be how these things go.

If only Uwe Boll's movies or Andre Dirrell's fights were as pleasant to look at as that picture...

Dirrell is not a fun fighter to watch, but he's very skilled. He was the most surprising choice for the Super Six. Why did they not choose Bute over him?

Also, what was this article about? I lost my train of thought after looking at that picture. - Unifythebelts (Dan P.)

Thank you, sir. My Manos-style title for this fight would be Patas: Feet of Flight.

Yeah, Lennox did a fair bit of defending AD. I think because he was looking at it from a boxer's POV: "Hey, he's keeping his distance and using his jab and his legs, he's minimizing risk and controlling the action, making Stevens completely ineffective, good job." The only problem is pro boxing at the highest level is about more than winning. If I ever get around to covering Lennox-Tua or Lennox-Akinwande, Lennox will absolutely get his. He definitely deserves some grief for those performances.

I remember Dirrell's corner telling him to throw more combinations but mostly they seemed happy with his work. They never really pressed him. Everyone had to hear the crowd, though, and the crowd was decidedly not happy.

I was more forgiving of Dirrell against Froch before I watched this again. He didn't run quite like he did in this, but that "arms up in the air, sidestep and run away" dance move made many appearances against Froch. He just doesn't respond to punches well. To me, there's a difference between wanting to be a great defensive fighter and not ever wanting to get hit. Andre acts like he never wants to take a punch and it leads to some pretty excruciating fights. A lot of it, I think, is because Andre never turns his defense into offense, he's content to make a guy miss and run away. I'm not a Froch fan but I think his superiority to Stevens was the big difference between Dirrell-Stevens and Froch-Dirrell. Andre fought a very similar fight in both, although he was more active against Froch, I have to admit.

I'm as happy to have it here as you are to have me, so thank you. I have some ideas for more, but I think I can only do them once a month or so to keep me from putting my head through the television.

A Manos: The Hands of Fate reference! Nice one Scott -- that's just too appropriate.

The fight might've been as awful as is possible in this Great Sport of ours, but this is an entertaining piece. - Chris

First off, kudos to you for enduring this thing.

I seem to remember Lennox Lewis really enjoying Dirrell's performance. Did you hear same?

I also remember Dirrell's corner heaping praise on him, like what he was doing was really enjoyable to behold. Yes?

I thought Dirrell redeemed himself some with his performances against Hanshaw and in his next couple fights. I recognize that his fight against Froch caught him some hell, but I could live with his performance. I didn't think he was exclusively running, like he was against Stevens. I know I'm in the minority.

Finally, couldn't be happier to have this feature on the site. I look forward to more of 'em, even if I worry about you having to watch too many more. It's the kind of thing that does to a boxing writer's eyes that a Castillo-Corrales does to a boxer's body. - Tim Starks
