TQBR Prediction Game 5.0, Update #4

With four fights over the past weekend, it could’ve been a points bonanza for contestants in TQBR Prediction Game 5.0. Instead, one fight — Victor Ortiz-Lamont Peterson — ended in a draw for which no points were awarded, and another of the fights nobody* got any points for, since nobody* picked the winner, Joseph Agbeko, who stunningly outboxed Yonnhy Perez in their rematch.

That phenomenon means that a slightly better pick here or there could make a tiny but not decisive difference. Plus 5.0 leader NattyChamps aka DukeShadeBlue dropping the ball on the 1-yard line (his predictions were mildly late) meaning we now have a new leader: Internet Tough Guy aka Dobbler. Thanks to my inability to remember that the clock on this blog is set to military time, I thought NattyChamps aka DukeShadeBlue handed in his entries late. He did not; in fact, he had the best possible points combo this week. So he remains the leader. But his (restored) reign atop the throne could be very short-lived. This week brings the conclusion of 5.0, and 11 six people could still theoretically win it all including the five people tied for fifth place.

About that asterisk: Orbital Bone Surgeons aka IrvinRyan was the only team to pick Agbeko to win, good for a whopping 700 points — 500 for the correct call, 100 for the upset pick and another 100 for the default accuracy bonus. It was the call of the week, needless to say. Nobody in the world said, “I think Agbeko will outbox Perez,” except IR, whose nickname around these parts is “The Oracle.” The runner-up call of the week went to the eight nine people who got points correctly calling Amir Khan by unanimous decision over Marcos Maidana. The second runner-up went to the nine 10 people who got points calling an Abner Mares UD over Vic Darchinyan, although it ended up being split. Darchinyan was the popular upset pick of the week: Five went with him.

OK. Everyone gear up for this week’s pickable fight, Jean Pascal-Bernard Hopkins, which will conclude this edition of TQBR Prediction Game. Look for it no later than Thursday.

Until then, below are your standings. As usual, please notify me of any tabulation errors and we’ll adjudicate:
