The sixth fight on the Donaire vs. Narvaez undercard pits Miguel Angel Garcia, with a perfect record (26 with 22 knockouts) versus Mexican Juan Carlos Martinez (17-12-1) in a ten-round NABF featherweight title bout. While Garcia may have the perfect record, Martinez is game and landing better in the 1st round. He’s reaching Garcia consistently with the right, but the round ends with a nice shot from Garcia. But Martinez is doing well reaching Garcia with long left hoods over the top. Garcia tends to be hitting him with the harder punches. Now Garcia lands a sharp left.
In the 2nd round Martinez tends to throw long overhands and is getting leather right down the pipe from Garcia whose punches are much harder. Huge rights from Garcia land flush. Martinez lands a body shot, and Garcia appears to have a big mouse under his eye going into the 3rd round. It’s the 3rd round, and reporters are mulling whether that’s a mouse under Garcia’s eye, and it looks kind of bad. Martinez is reaching him with those looping punches and straights, but again Garcia is huge and punches right down the middle, which is going to be very bad for Martinez.
Martinez connects with a straight right and uppercut. Fight goes to the middle of the ring. Suddenly Garcia drops Martinez with a huge left hook. Garcia is up before the count and Garcia lands a massive one, dropping Martinez again, but he is saved by the bell.
4th round. Martinez eats another big left trying to land. A big right and Martinez is staggered by a left, and a right drops him again.
Garcia can’t miss with the left, and he lands two more and a right, and another right, and drops him again. Martinez is staggered; now, press row is calling for the ref to stop it. The reporters are yelling “stop it, stop it now” as Garcia lands and lands. And finally the ref has seen enough: Technical knockout, 2:46, and Miguel Angel Garcia is still the NABF titlist.
