The Week’s Boxing Schedule, Featuring The Floyd Mayweather Vs. Canelo Alvarez Replay And Roman Gonzalez

Is everybody a little bit spent after the orgy of top level boxing we had on the weekend? I know I am. Well, this week should allow you to rest and recharge your boxing batteries, because there ain’t much on.

According to Bob “The Colonel” Sheridan, who commentated the international broadcast, double the number of people who watched the World Cup and the Super Bowl COMBINED watched Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez. But in the mathematically unlikely event you weren’t one of those 15 billion people, it will be replayed for free on regular Showtime on Saturday night, along with Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse.

The rest of the week’s schedule is made up of stuff we’d usually list at the end of the column in the section called The Rest, so here it is: Friday will see junior featherweight Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. (22-3-1, 19 KO) fight Guillermo Avila (11-0, 8 KO) on Telemundo… Saturday night features a pair of cards from the United Kingdom, with exciting middleweight Billy Joe Saunders (18-0, 10 KO) headlining a London show against fellow undefeated prospect John Ryder (15-0, 9 KO) while in Liverpool lightweight “Dirty” Derry Matthews (33-8-2, 18 KO) fights Curtis Woodhouse (19-5, 13 KO)… Back Stateside, fringe contender Caleb Truax (22-1-1, 13 KO) is fighting at middleweight  at home in Minnesota against Cerresso Fort (17-1-1, 11 KO), who sounds more like a European tourist attraction than a boxer… And last, but certainly not least, Transnational Boxing Rankings Board #1 junior flyweight (and until recently, its #10 pound-for-pound) Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (35-0, 29 KO) fights Francisco Rodriguez, Jr. (11-1, 9 KO) at home in Panama on Saturday.
