Caballero Stops Pastrana in 8

WBA super bantamweight titlist Celestino Caballero (28-2, 19 KO)successfully defended his title over tough Colombian Mauricio Pastrana (34-8-2, 22 KO) via 8th round TKO at the Gimnasio Roberto Duran in Panama City, Panama. Caballero used his superior reach advantage to control the action throughout the contest as Pastrana was clearly outmatched. The end came for Pastrana in the 8th when referee Roberto Ramirez waived a halt to the contest after Caballero let loose a punishing barrage of shots on the outclassed Colombian. The official time of the stoppage was 0:58 into the 8th round. The fight was clearly a stay busy fight for Caballero who finds himself without a major fight in the talent rich 122 pound division.  Caballero is the classic example of “high risk low reward” fighter.  After his destruction of Daniel Ponce De Leon none of the major players at 122 have whispered his name.  Caballero has called out the winner of the highly anticipated Israel Vasquez – Rafael Marquez rubber-match but so far such posturing has fallen on deaf ears.
