Little-Seen Kendall Holt – Ricardo Torres I To Air On Showtime

If you’re like me, you’ve only seen some relatively grainy footage of the controversial junior welterweight (140 lbs.) title fight between Kendall Holt and Ricardo Torres in 2007. If you’re like me, you’ve seen the likewise controversial Holt-Torres II earlier this year several times over. And if you’re like me, you’re eagerly looking forward to the third meeting between the two men on Dec. 13.

Showtime, which will broadcast that rubber match, will hype it up a little by airing both the little-seen Holt-Torres I and the far better-known Holt-Torres II Monday, Dec. 8 at 10 p.m., then again a couple times later in the week, per a news release from the channel.

Heads pelted with beer bottles, legs grabbed by spectators, shocking knockouts* — this is strange, fascinating stuff that happened in the first fight, friends, and the second fight was one of the most amazing of 2008. Showtime may be acting in its own interests here to boost ratings for the third fight, but it’s cool that we’re the beneficiaries.

(*Let the record show I do not advocate heads being pelted with beer bottles or legs being grabbed by spectators.)
