The Boxing TV Schedule, Featuring Sergio Mora

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there really isn’t much boxing on this week. In fact, there’s not a proper “big fight” until February 21. On Friday middleweight Sergio Mora is fighting someone who is not Jermain Taylor on ESPN2, which can only be counted as a small victory, and there’s another show on UniMas on Saturday. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

  • Sergio Mora Vs. Abie Han, Friday, ESPN2, Biloxi Miss. While this isn’t a great match-up, it’s way better than Taylor vs. Mora, the bout ESPN had planned before Taylor’s apparent breakdown. Taylor’s South Korean replacement Han (23-1, 14 KO) is at least healthy and brave, if a little wild. He shouldn’t give Mora (27-3-2, 9 KO), always a capable boxer, too much trouble. He’ll hang around and try his best, though.
  • Saul Rodriguez Vs. Daniel Diaz, Saturday, Hidalgo, Texas. Mexican-American junior lightweight prospect Rodriguez (16-0-1, 13 KO) is a foot-planting banger. Nicaragua’s Diaz (22-6-1, 15 KO) is a gangly, slightly fragile type. He’ll put up a fight but I think Rodriguez’s more compact punches will end this before the final bell.
