Don’t get your hopes up — I can’t offer you a weekend of boxing like the one we had last weekend. The week’s boxing schedule is rather bare, but read on if you need a fix.
- Alfonso Gomez vs. Yoshihiro Kamegai, Friday, Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes, Indio Calif. Kamegai (25-2-1, 22 KO) certainly earned another TV outing after a rock ’em-sock ’em war with Robert Guerrero last year. He’s moving up to junior middleweight and fighting Gomez (24-6-2, 12 KO), who has fought twice in the last four years and can no longer take much of a punch.
- Alejandro Hernandez vs. Martin Casillas, Friday, Telemundo, Mexico City. Bantamweight vet Hernandez (28-11-2, 15 KO) takes on fellow Mexico City native Casillas (15-4, 9 KO) in a televised club fight.
- Emanuel Lopez vs. Carlos Padilla, Saturday, beIN Sports Español, Tapachula Mexico. Local boy Lopez (17-4-1, 6 KO) takes on Padilla (15-1-1, 9 KO), who’s never fought anywhere but the gulf coast of his native Colombia.
- Juergen Braehmer vs. Robin Krasniqi, Saturday, Rostock Germany. Braehmer (45-2, 33 KO), the TBRB’s #5 light heavyweight, usually plays it safe in his native Germany. This fight is no exception; Kosovo’s Krasniqi (43-3,16 KO) is most notable for a shutout loss to Nathan Cleverly. He did beat Tomas Adamek once (though probably not the guy you’re thinking of).
