That sign is… unfortunate. You know what else is unfortunate? This week’s boxing schedule — cos there ain’t much on.
- Johan Perez vs Dmitry Mikhaylenko, Saturday, HBO Latino, Indio Calif. A solid if uninspiring bout on HBO Latino between welterweights Perez (20-2-1, 13 KO) and Mikhaylenko (19-0, 8 KO). Both men like to throw a lot of punches — Mikhaylenko is a fairly typical Eastern European, high-handed fighter, so Perez’s body work could give him a significant advantage.
- Sergiy Derevyanchenko vs Elvin Ayala, Friday, Showtime, Atlantic City. A similar bout to the one above on ShoBox, with an Eastern European with amateur pedigree (Derevyanchenko, 5-0, 4 KO) taking on a game but less polished foe (Ayala, 28-6-1, 12 KO). Derervyanchenko is more experienced than his record suggests, having been through several seasons of the semi-professional World Series of Boxing.
- Abraham Lopez vs Jorge Diaz, Friday, Fox Deportes, Los Angeles. Golden Boy continues with its LA club show dream with a show headlined by featherweight prospect Lopez
