[UPDATED] Boxing returned to network television this past weekend, and everyone lived. There were no international incidents, no epiphanic guarantees of boxing’s survival, Casey Ryback didn’t need to be called… It was just boxing. Sure, there were things people didn’t seem to like (Hint: entrances, and Marv Albert), but that nothing on either extreme end of the boxing drama spectrum happened is maybe a good thing.
The NBC show also signaled the beginning of what looks to be a good, sustained run for boxing in general as the schedule gets heavier. That means we’ll have to pull off some conversational sorcery to discuss it all, but it can be done.
This week on Queensberry Rules Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and TQBR’s Patrick Connor welcome Nicole Duva of Main Events to the show to preview this weekend’s Sergey Kovalev vs. Jean Pascal HBO card. Then there’s recapping Keith Thurman vs. Robert Guerrero and Adrien Broner vs. John Molina from the NBC card, but also previewing Andre Berto vs. Josesito Lopez on Premier Boxing Champions’ SpikeTV debut. (Basically if you want to see this week’s schedule and get an idea of what we’ll preview, read Alex McClintock’s version.)
