Adonis Stevenson wanted to fly, so a small boxing podcast has chosen to give him wings. We didn’t know that he’d jump the shark and fight Sakio Bika, though.
No matter your view of rankings organizations, lineal title adherence or the fairness of boxing’s every day structure, the idea that champions should fight the best available contender is a very basic one, almost universally agreed upon. That’s why Adonis Stevenson fighting someone naturally smaller and significantly less polished — despite coming off an easy win over an unknown opponent — is a weak move.
This week on Queensberry Rules Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and TQBR Radio’s Patrick Connor give ESPN‘s Brian Campbell a warm welcome back to the show. In addition to a Stevenson-Bika preview, we’ll give Gary Russell, Jr.’s devastating win over Jhonny Gonzalez a shout, plus some Kell Brook and Charlo rehashing. Expect sophisticated, contemporary banter fit for kings.
