This week’s boxing schedule is brought to you by nightmarish Soviet-era anti-boxing claymation. You’re welcome.
- Sergey Kovalev vs Jean Pascal, Saturday, HBO, Montreal. Not sure what we’re meant to learn from this light heavyweight rematch, since Russian destroyer Kovalev put a nasty beating on Pascal last time out. Maybe he can really challenge himself by doing it in less rounds.
- Jose Felix vs Ricky Sismundo, Saturday, UniMas, Burbank Calif. One-time blue chip prospect Felix continues to work himself back into contention several weight classes above junior lightweight, where he lost to Bryan Vasquez in 2014.
- Julian Ramirez vs Christopher Martin, Saturday, Estrella TV, Los Angeles. One-time featherweight fringe contender Martin has made the transition to journeyman after a series of losses and here serves as a slight step up for Mexican prospect Ramirez, AKA “El Camaron” or “The Prawn.”
- Dusty Hernandez Harrison vs Angel Hernandez, Friday, Elk Park Ill. D.C. area welterweight prospect/should-be-contender-by-now Hernandez Harrison fights journeyman/no hoper Hernandez in a war of Hernandezes.
- Yazmin Rivas vs Catherine Phiri, Saturday beIN Sports Español, Rosarito Mexico. Female bantamweights headline this card from just south of the border, where the women’s side of the sport gets a lot more attention.
