Word on the (absence of) street is that hole in the space-time continuum up there used to be the building where Lucas Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov signed their contracts to fight one another. It cannot be confirmed, however, as the Hounds of Hell now guard the area, per the instructions of Momma Provodnikov.
More seriously, fights like Matthysse-Provodnikov don’t come along all the time. But when they do come along, the hardcore boxing fan contingent is usually reminded of the difference between a lot of boxing being on television, and fun boxing being on television.
This week on Queensberry Rules Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and TQBR’s Patrick Connor will struggle to contain themselves as they preview Matthysse-Provodnikov. There will also be plenty of talk about the HBO undercard, which features Terence Crawford against Thomas Dulorme, and the good fight over at Showtime between Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. and Andrzej Fonfara. Yes, yes, expect a recap of Danny Garcia vs. Lamont Peterson and Andy Lee vs. Peter Quillin from NBC, too, but look to the horizon, fans. There’s a lot of boxing out there in the wilderness.
